Barcelo Maya Colonial - All Inclusive

Property was clean, lots of choices to eat. Wish there was a cafe/bakery that would be available anytime. Service was very good.

Best experience of an "all inclusive" we've had. If there was any negative, our "lead" team (the first to arrive to resort) had to basically berate the guest services team to make certain we had enough "tickets" for the 4 couples so that we could get restaurant reservations for us all. None of the other 3 couples even received tickets, so thankfully our lead couple did all the work. I would REALLY STRESS you need to work this out. I can't tell you how many other guests that I heard make this same claim. Also, a number of the restaurants were NEVER available during our entire stay (from 6 to 14 days). How is that possible?

It’s a fantastic resort. Very clean, very professional staff. Sarahi and Acua at the kids club were amazing. We will be returning.

Pro: Very clean everywhere on the property. Manicured garden. “Stay one play Four” feature. House cleaning was on the spot. Any time of the day we left for a little while, it's done by the time we were back. The variety of the beaches. Rockey Beach for snorkeling and sandy beach for swimming. Plenty of lounge chairs that you don't have to rush early in the morning to get chairs. Con: we reserved colonial but moved to Caribe at check-in. They say it's the same but it's not because we paid more for Colonial on *******. The drain of the tub was so slow that we were standing a foot deep in water by the time we finished showing. On the 4th day, I got food poisoning. I suspect it was by Beach Hotel Buffet. I ate ceviche and it was the only thing I ate but my husband didn't. It lasted 4 days. There is a clinic with a 24-hour doctor on the property but they don't even give us a consultation unless pay them $200 upfront. I bought stomach soothing tablets, Gatorade, and anti-diarrhea meds at the store to fly home. Food poisoning by their food but no compensation. Very disappointed. By the way, those types of meds were readily available in every store on the property, which tells you a lot.

We origially book 8 rooms at Barcelo maya colonial for a family function. When we arrived they moved everybody except 1 family over to caribe. The food was terrible. Drink we’re ok. Spend a little more and book at a better resort.

Staff were terrifble (front desk and guest services) did not offer any assistance at all. No issues were ever addressed and we were always ignored or treated rudely. Make sure you have a shuttle clearly outlined in your booking or you wont get one... and they wont help. Really sad - because restaurant and other staff are great. I wouldn't stay here again. Such a sad way to end the last part of our vacation.

Colonial Resort. The resort was amazing and we really enjoyed our time here. This was our first time visiting the Colonial Resort but we have stayed in this chain of resorts twice in the past. The food was great and we really enjoyed both the buffets and the restaurants. My wife noted that the quality of the food has improved from our last two stays. They had gluten free options for those that are gluten sensitive. Restaurants require men to wear pants and a shirt with sleeves, easy enough. The rooms were clean with clean sheets, working AC units, and the staff were able to provide cribs for infants/toddlers. The beach was very big and wide, it spans the entire 6 resort complex. Many parts of the beach had rocks in the water, about 6 to maybe 30 feet into the water depending on particular locations. Once you swim past the rocky area, the sand is nice and soft underfoot. We found an area infront of the Palace Resort that had no rocks when your walking into the water. Very big and spacious resort with alot of things to do. We really enjoyed this resort and would recommend it. Caribe and Beach Resorts have worse rooms as compared to the other resorts, but this difference is reflected in the price.

It’s a beautiful resort. The staff is great and the food is good. The air conditioner went out in our room twice so that was a disappoin**ent. We ended up having to change rooms which salvaged our stay.

Lovely property and the staff was excellent. There was plenty of food to eat though it wasn't the most delicious.
