We were out in Wyoming and Montana for 2 weeks celebrating our wedding anniversary and our friend’s birthday. On our way back, we stopped in North Dakota for a night to break up our travel. There aren’t a lot of options in the surrounding areas and we want to make sure we get a property that is clean and ideally newer. We came across Staybridge Suites. They have higher ratings and pictures look great for an overnight stay. We booked without hesitation about 4 months before our actual date. Fast forward to Saturday 8/12, we arrived late night from our travel. My wife is 5 months pregnant, so it was important the place is clean and smoke free. Unfortunately, upon entering our room exhausted, a strong smoking smell came from the room. It was so strong that you could almost taste it. Beyond disappointed, we connected with front desk. The gentleman was nice, but he informed us there was no longer any king suites left, which we booked. There was another “out of order” king suite available but there is sewer gas coming out of their bathroom. It left us without any other options to downgrade to a queen size room, which is a lot smaller. We were so exhausted and just wanted a good night sleep, so we checked in and figured we would figure out the refund of difference the next day. Unfortunately, the hotel couldn’t do any adjustment since we prepaid through *******. It’s disappointing that we booked 4 months ago and came to a room filled with smoking smell and downgrade to a room type.
