Thank you to everyone at The Royal Esplanade Hotel for a lovely event. We had my Dad’s 80th birthday party there yesterday & it’s was perfect. We had the large room, alongside the bar, plenty of space & great layout. The food was good & loads of it. But what really made it was the people working, who made everything run smoothly, thought of the little things, even providing some decorations, sorting out a speaker for music & cake stand etc and most importantly were super friendly & nothing was too much trouble. Dad had a great time, so thank you. I would definitely recommend it for a party venue.

This hotel is nothing like it makes out to be on its website, the whole place needs gutting and refitting, every single fitting in the hotel room had something wrong with it, broken, dirty, ripped, stained. Bed had brown stains up the side, the pull out mattress bed for kids had what looks like a blood stain. The walls had dirty handprints and smudges all over. Curtain was ripped, windows were single glazed, covered in cobwebs and grime and all the paintwork chipping off, the bathroom had a huge damp stain on the lino, the bath itself had water damage to the outside edges and the skirting board was falling off due to water damage. Half the lamps didn't turn on and they all had cobwebs over them. The inside of the bath had holes in showing rust, the toilet flush button was not attached and had to be balanced in place each time you needed to flush. The sink was just fitted onto a worktop that didn't have anything underneath it so it was just open pipes. The kettle didn't boil and we had to get a new one, the new one was so crusted up with limescale and dust it was gross, then to rub salt in the wounds the tea bags changed from Pg tips the first day, to cheap own branded ones thereafter. There was a huge fist fight outside the hotel in the night which could be heard through the windows, not nice when your 8 year old child can hear people getting punched, there was blood up the door the next day. Then the next night day there was the sound of barrels being thrown onto a van in the late hours of the night. We booked a table for the restaurant one of the evenings, we had booked this table before arriving at the hotel and it was accepted, we waited until it was time for our booking (later than we normally eat due to wanting a drink in the bar first) only to be told that they aren't opening the restaurant that day so we had to go down the road and spend a heck of a lot of money in a random restaurant that we had never planned to go to in the first place. Two days later we asked about the restaurant and again it was closed so we got some chips and sat by the sea instead. The price of this hotel is an absolute joke considering the quality you get, do yourself a favour and do not throw your money away like we did, it really puts a downer on your holiday.
