ザ フリーザー ホステル & カルチャー センター(The Freezer Hostel & Culture Center)

The Freezer Hostel & Culture Centre in Hellissandur on Snaefellsness Peninsula was an interesting cultural experience for me, my husband, and our teenage daughter. For decades, its been a venue for musicians and comedians, in addition to serving as a hostel. We really enjoyed the artsy vibe and talking with some of the employees there. They offered a yoga class in the morning which looked like fun. The mural depicting a Norse goddess that's on our room's wall was painted by a local artist. We could leave our food in the kitchen, although there is little food to buy for breakfast. On the negative side, the cost of a room doesn't include towels, and you need to push the shower button every 5 or so minutes to turn on the water again (which is actually a good feature in terms of conserving water!). The lap of luxury it's not (what hostel is?), but it's a fun and artsy place to stay for a night.

This place is cool - a funky hostel on an awesome peninsula! The new expansion has amazing artwork and is very relaxing.

This is a good value hostel for exploring the peninsula. We stayed in the Time Machine Room - which had 4 bunk beds in it. There are no lockers or privacy curtains, but the blackout curtains work really really well. They also provide some great 3M ear plugs for free. The kitchen is a good size and we were able to cook breakfast and dinner without fighting for space. Lovely huge common room which also doubles as a bar/live music venue/and hosts a theatre. Unfortunately nothing was on when we stayed (Mon/Tuesday night) but they do have events on Thurs/Fri/Sat. There were two bathrooms for the hostel, and I was worried about queuing but ended up having no issues at all using a bathroom when needed. Rif is a very small fishing harbour/village and there isn't really anything to do in Rif itself - you'll want to get out and about. Parking was easy.

Close to attractions. Outside look was not good and dirty. Bathroom has only one dark color towel, doesn’t look clean. Bedsheet was dark color too.

Great artsy space in a small fishing village. Clean and has a usable kitchen area which is a big plus!

Really fun, really funky hostel with a great vibes and a unique a**osphere and amazing staff :)

O hostel foi surpreendentemente aconchegante! Desde a recepcao e a galera que estava no hostel foi muito de boa. Os espaços e as alternativas de interação muito legais também.

Il s'agit en fait d'une sorte de grand hangar aménagé à la fois en centre culturel et en auberge de jeunesse. Le grand espace salon commun est formidable, il y a aussi tout un espace "cinéma", table de ping-pong, babyfoot, etc. Bref, tout ce qu'il faut pour passer des soirées agréables. La chambre est fonctionnelle, rudimentaire mais propre. Au moment de notre séjour, un "classique" islandais a été diffusé le soir, c'était intéressant. Petit bémol concernant la cuisine, assez peu organisée (pas de bouchon pour faire la vaisselle) et je plains les gens qui dorment dans la chambre juste à côté. Wifi assez faible dans les chambres également. Au final, un endroittrès loin d'être luxueux mais chaleureux, plein de débrouille et de charme.

What a terrific hostel design! Spots to hang out, board games, music floor with instruments, and a closed in kitchen space to meet people as well. One of the assistants even showed us his fishing boat!! Shoutout Orvar.
