Not up to the standard of a western five star hotels, but nice and historic hotel and overall good stay. Swimming pool and sauna was ok and do the job. Breakfast ok. I didn't appreciate 1) the cost of parking (15€/day if you want to avoid a 10/15 minutes walk) 2) the 20min offered massage is a joke (I checked-in at 1AM, and the only slot they offer was 7AM the same day ...they couldn't change it)

Grand hotel with huge rooms (suites) and spa treatments. Located a little away from the town centre up a steep hill - furnical service provided but not operating in the evening. We had half-board that was fine for breakfast but not recommended for dinner, as the restaurant was very crowded and appeared understaffed, not living up to a five star rating. We upgraded to the a crate restaurant for a fee and this was excellent but in terms of food and service.

Sehr großes und imposantes Haus mit Blick über Karlsbad. Die Einrichtung im Bereich der Lobby korrespondiert mit dem Stil des Hauses. Das Zimmer im 5. OG mit Balkon hatte einen schönen Blick auf die Altstadt. Die Betten im Zimmer waren gut, wenn auch etwas weich. Auf dem Zimmer gibt es eine Kaffee Kapsel Maschine bei der täglich der verbrauchte Kaffee aufgefüllt wird. Das "Restaurant" Prag hingegen ist einem 5 Sterne Hotel nicht angemessen. Es erinnert eher an sozialistische FDGB Speisesääle als an ein gediegenes 5 Sterne Restaurant. Der Fußboden war mit Teppich ausgestattet und wies unzählige Flecken auf. Die Wände waren zum Teil mit Essenspuren verziert (wer schmiert eigentlich Essen an die Wände? 😕). Die Decke war teilweise mit Spinnweben geschmückt. Das Personal würde ich als "rustikal" und wenig freundlich. Das Essen ist weit davon entfernt auf Niveau eines 5 Sterne Hotels zu sein. Es gibt Buffet in ausreichender Form, ohne tägliche Abwechslung, zum Ende der Essenszeit mit deutlich merkbarem Qualitätsverlust (das Rindersteak war nicht zu kauen, die Knödel hatten bereits eine Kruste). Am meisten störte uns der völlige Verzicht auf Corona Schutzmaßnahmen beim Essen. Jeder greift in das Buffet, zum Teil werden keine Masken getragen, es gibt keinen Spuckschutz, keine Einmal-Handschuhe etc.. Der Spa und Wellnessbereich ist als solcher in der Beschreibung völlig überbewertet. Ein Schwimmbecken, eine kleine finnische Sauna mit einem deutlich in die Jahre gekommenen Becken....

Das Hotel ist sehr schön und gut gelegen. Leider habe ich bei Buchung einer Suite nur eine Junior Suite bekommen.

Grossartiger erster Eindruck: tolle Lage, imposantes Gebäude, sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiter Empfang, ein mehr als geräumiges Zimmer, alles in top Zustand und sehr sauber. Leider wurde der gute Eindruck durch das schlechte Essen (wir hatten Halbpension gebucht) mehr als getrübt. Hier ein paar der gravierenden Mängel, die eines 5-Stern Hotels unwürdig sind: - am Eingang zum Speiseraum fehlt eine Empfangsperson, welche die Gäste an den Tisch begleitet - die Präsentation der Speisen am Buffet glänzt durch eine Lieblosigkeit sondergleichen: keinerlei Dekoration, nur ein Aufhäufen in Schalen und Schüsseln (Ausnahme: Amuses Bouches und Dessert-Häppchen) - die Speisenauswahl, vor allem betreffend Salaten und Gemüsen, ist mehr als bescheiden; dass es Vegetarier gibt, scheint im Hotel noch nicht angekommen zu sein (ich selbst esse Fleisch!) - bei leeren Schüsseln wird der Nachschub durch Küchenmitarbeiter mit den Händen (in dünnen Plastikhandschuhen) und direkt am Buffet in die Schüsseln geschaufelt - das Personal im Speisesaal ist, mit wenigen Ausnahmen, grösstenteils mürrisch, spricht kaum Fremdsprachen und scheint für den Service schlecht/nicht geschult zu sein - auch das Frühstücksbuffet konnte nicht überzeugen, weder bei der Präsentation, noch bei der Auswahl der Speisen und Getränke Zusammenfassend kann ich sagen, dass wir so etwas zum letzten Mal vor vielen Jahren in einem billigen, all-inclusive 3-Stern Hotel erlebt haben. Hier besteht dringender Handlungsbedarf!

Stilvolles sowie repräsentatives ca. Hundert jähriges Hotel an einmaliger Lage. Qualitativ umfassendes Wellnessangebot. Umfangreiches und sehr gutes Frühstücksangebot. Dies bezieht sich ebenso auf das Nachtessen. Sehr freundliche ind kompetente Bedienung. Grosszügiges und ruhiges Zimmer. Komfortmässig gibt es nur einen Mangel; das Kopfkissen sowie die Bettdecke sollten ziemlich bald ausgewechselt werden. Wir würden sofort wieder einen Aufenthalt in diesem Hotel buchen.

Wunderbare Lage und Ausstattung.

The building is impressive, enthroned up on the east hillside of Karlovy Vary. Habsburgian vibes reminiscent of ancient days. Imperial is in good condition and nicely renovated. The scale of the building is huge and dimensioned for thousands of guests. Walking around takes quite a bit of time but with lesser amount of guests than the mentioned thousand, it feels quite lonely to stroll the corridors... The public areas are mostly beautiful, but the five official stars... no, unfortunately not. What is lacking? Well, the scale of the property demands to keep it running. To keep it running you have to have a lot of guests. Thus, you have to attract people who not usually are in the "five star category". And so they (try to) do. Many things turn to "cantina" standard in respect of both the reception and "handling" of the guests and the dining options. Very tired staff at check in. One example: in the main lobby there are only two elevators, whereof one at our visit was out of order. Another elevator in another part of the hotel did not serve all the floors. Nah.... Rooms are renovated and just fine. All amenities and a good night's sleep in comfy beds. Nice with a small balcony. For those having some sort of boarding agreement, dinner is served as a buffet dinner in the magnificent "Prague restaurant" with lavish decoration. A buffet is hardly a concept in a real five star hotel and we consequently had dinner in the more intimate "Restaurant Paris" - see my separate review. In "Prague" breakfast is also served, which proved to be a great gathering of all the hotel guests at the same time. More like a school cantina than a five star hotel. Everything in place though, and most thing you would want is there to find. Queues to the coffee machines... Parking was "doen the hill" and we ended up parking on a tennis court (!). OK - no problem, but not in the ballpark of attending staff helping you with the parking facilities. Staff correct and polite. But very stiff. And tired. Many steps behind service of a true 5-star. It's about price/performance. We had the opportunity to stay at three different hotels at Karlovy Vary during our stay. And one of those was the Grandhotel Pupp, which we considered to be much more lika a true five star. AND they are/were cheaper! So, you may well stay at Imperial, just for the sake of the building's eminent history and athmosphere. But be aware that days gone by since the turn of the century does not apply in the respecto of "grand" anymore.
