On arrival I was given a ground floor room with floor to ceiling windows directly adjacent to the dining area 2m away). And a single bed. (King sized had been ordered: I haven't slept in a single bed for decades). I was shown a 1st floor room instead which was perfect, but then was told that that room had been sold online that minute and the original room was the only one now available but I could move after one night. Not too happy, but it is what it is and I'd put up with it. Then, as I moved in, I saw that the room was filthy almost beyond comprehension. Bits of detritus, dead insects and splash stains everywhere on the floor and then, to my horror, a globule of blood on the floor just where I'd be walking barefoot from the bed to the bathroom. On prodding it with my sandals it smeared so it wasn't dry. At this point I had a sense of humour failure and demanded that the room be cleaned immediately. Meanwhile I had a swim and shower and then inspected my newly 'cleaned' room. Again I summoned the desk manager, pointed out dead mosquitoes and wipes up some marks with my wet shower towel. I didn't want it cleaned again but pointed out that a room like that was unacceptable for any hotel (I'd have walked out of a £30 per night Travelodge. never mind a luxury boutique hotel). A room that disgustingly dirty should never be given to a guest. The following day I was moved to a clean upstairs room. The hotel has wonderful views, right on the beach with a lovely pool. Very few people dined in as the prices are expensive. There are lots of staff, but there was something of the Fawlty Towers about ordering. You would ask the senior guy for 'poached eggs' which he would repeat 'poached eggs' to the junior person etc. Despite this not one meal arrived exactly as ordered.
